FBN Asia

FBN Asia is a regional chapter of FBN International, a private not-for-profit organisation representing family businesses in 65 countries across 5 continents. Based in Singapore, FBN Asia covers Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. The network offers a unique and safe space for its members to share best practices and ideas on how to grow, succeed and prosper in their family, business and personal spheres.

Led “By Families, For Families”, the regional chapter also addresses issues prevalent in Asian family businesses – particularly in the areas of business transition, family dynamics, leadership succession, strategic philanthropy and active citizenship. It thrives on the principles of trust, confidentiality, mutual respect and non-solicitation to facilitate intimate sharing and exchange of wisdom.

Overview

Join us on an enriching journey to Yogyakarta, a city famous for its rich artistic heritage and traditional Javanese performing arts. With its vibrant culture, Yogyakarta is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is the only Indonesian royal city still ruled by a monarchy, making it an important center for classical Javanese fine arts and culture. Our trip will include insightful visits to family businesses, creating meaningful conversations and connections within the family business community. We'll explore the grandeur of the Royal Palace and marvel at the majestic Borobudur Temple, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, where we'll delve into the rich history of Buddhism on Java Island. This journey would be a great time for learning, exploration, and cultural immersion that you won't want to miss!

    Yogyakarta Royal Family


    An insightful conversation with representatives of the Yogyakarta Royal Family, Indonesia's only active monarchy. This conversation offers a rare glimpse into the Sultanate of Yogyakarta's rich history, culture, and governance. Officially known as Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, the sultanate was founded in 1755 and has played a significant role in Indonesia's history, particularly during its independence movement. Today, it is autonomously governed under the leadership of Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

    Sido Muncul Group


    PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk, commonly known as Sido Muncul, is an esteemed Indonesian company specializing in herbal medicine and food products, founded in 1940 in Semarang. The company traces its roots back to the formulation of Tolak Angin, a popular herbal remedy developed by Rakhmat Sulistio, who initially began her journey with a dairy farm and bakery. Over the years, Sido Muncul has evolved from a home-based business to a prominent player in the herbal industry, known for its innovative products, including candies, health drinks, and instant coffee. In 2013, Sido Muncul made history as the first herbal medicine company to be listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange. Committed to benefiting both the community and the environment, Sido Muncul continues to expand its offerings and enhance its reputation as a leader in the jamu industry.

    Agrinesia Raya

    

    Agrinesia Raya was founded in 2011 with the creation of Lapis Bogor Sangkuriang, inspired by the need for unique souvenirs from Bogor City. Using Bogor's signature ingredient, taro, the brand became a pioneer in developing the Lapis cake market, solidifying its identity as a key local souvenir. Expanding its mission to preserve Indonesia's traditional culinary heritage, Agrinesia launched Lapis Kukus Pahlawan in Surabaya and Lapis Botani in the Jadetabek area in 2016, followed by Bolu Susu Lembang in Bandung and Bakpia Kukus Tugu Jogja in 2017. In 2018, Bolu Malang Singosari was introduced, featuring local ingredients from Malang. Agrinesia continues to innovate, focusing on delivering high-quality, affordable products, nurturing a caring and enthusiastic team in a creative work environment, and balancing profitability with social and environmental responsibility.

    A visit to the Yogyakarta Palace, or Keraton Yogyakarta, offers a captivating glimpse into the heart of Javanese culture and history. As you enter the palace complex, you're greeted by stunning architecture that reflects the harmonious blend of Javanese aesthetics and European influences. The serene atmosphere invites exploration, allowing you to wander through various courtyards and halls, including the magnificent Bangsal Kencana (Golden Pavilion), where royal ceremonies take place. Each space within the palace is steeped in symbolism, showcasing artifacts from the Sultanate's rich past, such as royal carriages, traditional costumes, and gifts from dignitaries. The museum provides insight into the daily lives of the sultans and their families, revealing how the palace has been a center of governance and culture for centuries.

    Sunset at Borobudur Temple


    Experience breathtaking sunsets at Borobudur, where the golden hues illuminate the stunning temple and surrounding landscapes, creating a truly magical atmosphere. Borobudur, a remarkable 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple located in Central Java, Indonesia, is one of the largest and most significant Buddhist monuments in the world. Constructed from gray andesite stone, it features nine stacked platforms—six square and three circular—crowned by a central dome. Built during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, Borobudur embodies a unique blend of Javanese Buddhist architecture and indigenous traditions, guiding pilgrims through its intricate stairways and corridors. Rediscovered in the early 19th century by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, Borobudur has undergone extensive restoration and is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Batik Making Workshop


    Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Yogyakarta by participating in a batik-making course, where you can learn the art of this traditional Indonesian fabric. Guided by a local expert, you'll discover the intricate techniques used to create beautiful batik designs, from wax-resist dyeing to hand-painting patterns. This hands-on experience allows you to unleash your creativity as you craft your very own unique piece of batik to take home.

    Malioboro Street (Optional)


    Malioboro Street is the vibrant heart of Yogyakarta, renowned for its rich history and bustling atmosphere that attracts both locals and tourists alike. Often referred to as the city's lifeline, Malioboro is lined with an array of shops, street vendors, and markets selling everything from traditional batik clothing and handmade crafts to delicious local cuisine. The street, which dates back to the Dutch colonial era, is not just a shopping destination but also a cultural hub, featuring performances of traditional Javanese dance and gamelan music. Visitors can immerse themselves in Indonesia's culinary delights, with popular dishes like Gudeg and Nasi Kucing readily available from local warungs and street food stalls.     Transfer of registration:

    In the event that a registered participant is not able to attend, the registration may be transferred to a substitute participant from the same family business.

     

    Cancellations:

    If a registered participant needs to cancel his/her registration, the following terms will apply:

    Before 31 December 2024: 50% refund

    From 1 January 2025 onwards: No refund.

    Please note a formal written notice is required for transfer of registration and cancellation. All refunds will be processed within 30 days after the event.
